New for 2025!

Audition Preparation Flute Course

A series of lessons and coaching sessions designed to focus practice and preparation in the months running up to college and conservatoire auditions.

We have put together a package of flute lessons, performance psychology sessions, piano coaching and a group performance class, all to support the lead up to auditions to help players to perform to their full potential.

What is included?

3 hours of 1:1 flute lessons with Ruth Morley spread over 2-3 months. Ruth is an experienced performer and lecturer at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. She has been a member of RCS flute audition panels for many years. Ruth is especially interested in exploring the connection between developing physical skills to find an ease of technique and how this can enable more consistent performances and musical freedom.

2 Performance psychology sessions with Lee Holland (2.25 hours in total) Lee is in demand as a performing musician as well as being qualified in performance psychology. She is interested in how we can build skills and preparation techniques to help us to cope with pressure. More info here.

1 hour of rehearsal time with pianist Claire Haslin. Claire is an accompanist for RCS woodwind department and has been an accompanist for many audition panels. Time with Claire will help you to get to know the piano part better and give invaluable experience in duo playing.

1 group class to perform to each other on the 8th June 2025* With Claire, Ruth and Lee all on hand to help and support this is a chance to perform some of your audition repertoire. The class will also include time for discussions on interview preparation, how to best work with your audition pianist on the day, plus any other questions students may have. *This is the only fixed date in the course. All other sessions will be arranged at a date and time to suit students and teachers.

Any More Info?

Why is this in the spring? Auditions are not until the Autumn! The golden preparation time is in the early part of the year while there is time for technical developments and musical understanding to really sink in before performing in auditions.

  • This course is intended to support existing teaching for all students, and to give a boost by playing to new people and hearing some new ideas (or some old ideas in a different way)

  • We are very happy to be in touch with teachers so that we can make the whole experience as productive as possible.

  • We can only take a small number of students this year, so do get in touch soon if you are interested.

  • Also, please get in touch if you have any questions at all, or if you are a teacher enquiring on behalf of your students.
